Help Your Neighbors during Hunger Action Month

September is Hunger Action Month™, an annual, nationwide campaign by the Feeding America network to raise awareness and encourage action to reduce food insecurity.

This year, The Open Door has seen an increase in people asking for food assistance, and people are also coming to us more frequently for help

Single mom Gabby, 39, has three kids. With just $400 in child support, I’m constantly running out of food..." she says. “...that’s why I come a lot to The Open Door.”

Working full time as an aide for special needs adults, sometimes Gabby asks her mom to take her kids for occasional meals. Now she’s trying to get a second job, even though most of those earnings would go toward childcare costs.

In 2023, The Open Door helped stabilize the lives and health of 9,836 people from 4,952 households with 1,984,494 pounds of good food. Last year, we saw a 30% increase in requests for food assistance, and an additional 27% increase in requests in the first half of 2024.

Will YOU donate and help feed our neighbors during Hunger Action Month?

Your support helps us continue to meet the increased need in our community.

THANK YOU!
